Complete confidence and peace of mind
|
|

|
While Berco Express provides you with the best security
in the industry, insurance is always a sensible option for your complete
peace of mind.
All general consignments that you send through Berco Express are
automatically insured for an amount of R3000.00 at no additional cost
to you. Should the insured value of your consignment exceed R3000.00, the
cost of insurance would be 1.25% of the insured value, less R3000.00.
1. Automatic R3000 free cover that has been funded by Berco Express on behalf
of our clients for general cargo. This cover excludes cell phones and cell
phone accessories and pre-paid cards. Cover is available for these high-risk
items but has to be purchased for the full value of the cover required.
2. Premiums: 1.25% of the total sum insured.
3. Excesses:
a. Is levied at 3 % of the total sum insured on
all general
cargo, with a minimum of R100, which ever is the greater
amount.
b. Excess for cell phones and related items and
pre-paid
cards is 10% of the total sum insured.
4. Maximum value per conveyance per client limit: R 250,000. Any shipment with a
value in excess of this amount must be authorised, failing which the goods
will only be insured to a maximum value of R250,000. Authorisation is
simple and clients are provided with a reference number.
Particular
attention is drawn to the following:
1. Customers are urged to ensure that packaging is adequate. A great number of
claims are repudiated because of inadequate packaging.
2. Second hand goods cannot be insured for damage.
Calculation
Examples:
In the
unlikely event that a claim needs to be made on a shipment, the following
example illustrates how the calculation would be done.: Assume general cargo
valued at R27000. Cover for the first R3000 is funded by Berco.
Therefore the premium is R27000-R3000 = R24000 x 1.25% = R 300. (Excess
is the greater of R 100 or 3% of the total sum insured.) Therefore the claim
would be calculated as follows: Excess is 3% of R27000 = R 810 (which is
greater than the R100). R27000 less the excess = R26190 is the maximum
that would be paid out.
Assume
cell phones valued at R 570,000 are involved:
Berco was
advised that the value of the goods exceeds the R250,000 limit.
Premuim is
1.25%, therefore total premium is R 7125.
Maximum
allowable claim would be: R 570,000 less excess of 10% (R57,000) = R 513,000
Exclusions
The following goods may not be insured:
Dangerous, hazardous, combustible or explosive materials, gold and silver
bullion, coins, dust, cyanides, precipitates or any form of uncoined gold and
silver ore, platinum and other metals, precious and semi-precious stones,

certificates, uncancelled postage or revenue stamps, war savings or thrift
